The Sacramental Preparation

The parish aims to build up the faith community by encouraging all people living with in the parish jurisdiction to take an active part of the sacramental life and liturgical celebrations of the parish. The first step in achieving this is by initiating people--young and adults, into the Church.

The parish has several ways of carrying out Christian initiation and sacramental preparation. This can be done through:

1. Sacramental preparation for infant baptism;

2.
the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults;

3.
Marriage preparation;

4.
Sacramental preparation for confirmation and first reception of the Holy Eucharist for children enrolled in the Holy Eucharist Catholic Primary School and carried out by the school's sacramental preparation programme; and

5.
Sacramental preparation for confirmation and first reception of the Holy Eucharist, for children not enrolled in our parish school carried out by the PRECA Centre.

The Sacraments of Initiation

Are celebrated according to the rite of Christian initiation. Every stage is marked by rites celebrated within the parish Sunday masses. Neighbourhood meetings are held. Older people are encouraged to pray for the families involved. Catechists are actively sought. School and parish cooperate together with families and people.

Baptism

Sacrament of Baptism is offered every first Saturday, of the month at 11 am . Preparation meeting for parents/godparents on the Thursday evening prior to the baptismal celebration. Candles are available at the piety stall.

Confirmation

Celebrated on, or as close as possible to, Pentecost Sunday. Older students are often confirmed prior to Christmas at one of the parish masses. For adults it is usual at the Easter vigil

Confirmation may be done through the
RCIA or through sacramental prepartion via Preca Centre

Reconciliation

Celebrated as first reconciliation in November prior to first communion after Easter Saturdays at 10am and 5.15pm are the norm

First Communion

Celebrated in the weeks following Easter Sunday. The children are in grade 4 or beyond.

First Communion may be done through the school sacramental programme, the RCIA or through sacramental prepartion via the Preca Centre

Anointing of the Sick

Celebrated prior to the feasts of Easter and Christmas. Because of the sunshine western hospital being within the parish. The anointing is very important and very frequent

Marriages

Are celebrated whenever booked. Couples are encouraged to prepare over a period of time. Six months is, at least, desirable and most do.

Funerals

Are part of the life of all parishes. They are very important occasions. The parish encourages the vigil service as recommended by the church
